Waiting for Fruition

If the world did not need you
and you did not need this world,
you would never have come here.
G-d does not cast His precious child
into the pain of this journey without purpose.

You say you cannot see a reason.
Why should it surprise you that
a creature cannot fathom the plan of its Creator?
Nevertheless, eventually the fruits of your labor
will blossom for all to see.

Fill Your House

A container is defined by its contents:
A pitcher of water is water.
A crate of apples is apples.

A house, too, is defined by what it contains.

Fill your house with books of Torah, and your house becomes a Torah.
Affix charity boxes to its walls, and your house becomes a wellspring of charity.

Bring those who need a warm home to your table,
and your house becomes a lamp in the darkness.

The Mandate of Darkness

NASB - This is eternal life, that they may know You,
the only true God,
and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

As impossible as it sounds, as absurd as it may seem:
The mandate of darkness is to become light;
the mandate of a busy, messy world is to find oneness.

We have proof: for the greater the darkness becomes,
the greater the confusion of life,
the deeper our souls reach inward to discover their own light.

How could it be that darkness leads us to find a deeper light?
That confusion leads us to find a deeper truth?

Only because the very act of existence is set to know its own author.
That is the cosmic drama, its theme and its plot:
That otherness should come to know oneness.

And we are the players in that drama.

The Night Will Shine

There will come a time when the wolf will lie with the lamb,
when the night will shine,
when those who have died shall live.

But the wolf will be a wolf, the night will still be night,
and the experience of death shall remain the opposite of life.

For all these Gd made for His glory.

Morning Meditation

When you get up in the morning, let the world wait.
Defy it a little. First learn something to inspire you.
Take a few moments to meditate upon it.

And then you may plunge ahead into the darkness,
full of light with which to illuminate it.

Your Will 你的意思

If you do His will only because it makes sense to you,
then what does it have to do with Him?

You are doing your will.
You're back in prison.

Jealous Angels

The angels are jealous of the one who struggles in darkness.
They have light, but we touch the Essence.

Prayer Packaging

Every prayer of the heart is answered.
It's the packaging that doesn't always meet our taste.

Fearless

The pain is real. The fear is not.

The pain is real, because we are not in our place.
Nothing is in its place.
It is called exile, and so there is pain.
It is that angst of being in the wrong place that lifts us higher,
beyond this place.

The fear is not real,
because no matter where we are, our Gd is still with us.

The only thing we have to fear is that we may no longer feel the pain.

Getting Along

When we can’t get along with someone,
we like to blame it on that person’s faults:
Stupidity, incompetence, outrageous actions, aggression or some other evil.

The real reason is none of these.
It is that the world is broken, and we are the shattered fragments.

And all that stops us from coming back together is that
we each imagine ourselves to be whole.

Paradox

It's a paradox: The greatest revelations are to be found
not in meditation, study and prayer,
but in the mundane world --
but only if you would rather be meditating, studying and praying.

Punishment

Sometimes you don't know whether to punish a child or hug him.
If you punish him when he needed a hug, you've made a serious mistake.

But if you hug him when perhaps he should have been punished,
you've just brought some extra love into the world.

Reason To Celebrate

If you did things right, celebrate that you have a G-d
who appreciates your good work.
And if you fell on your face, celebrate that you have a G-d
who does not abandon you when you fall.
Perhaps you might even allow Him to pick you up.
